Alyssa studied art at New York University for four years, but left in 2013 after the onset of several physical and mental health problems. She now lives and works on a farm in New Jersey. Working in sculpture, ink, performance, and photography, she tends to focus on unfavorable aspects of society. She harbors a deep fascination with performance and voyeurism, and the hold that our desire to meet expectations can have on us as individuals. She implores viewers to consider the many facets of each situation we may find ourselves in, to hesitate before forming opinions, reevaluating the ways in which we view shame and guilt, and to recognize the demons lurking within ourselves. Her recent work marries these ideas with an exploration into the absurdity of the American Dream.
